This indicator assesses the level of resident satisfaction with tourism, considering factors such as quality of life, pressure on resources and infrastructure, and interaction with visitors. Monitoring this indicator is crucial to ensure that tourism brings balanced and sustainable benefits to local communities, promoting harmony between residents and visitors.
The Azores Sustainable Tourism Observatory (OTSA) conducts biennial surveys of the resident population, allowing it to track the evolution of these perceptions and assess the effects of tourism on the economic, social, cultural, and environmental dimensions. This monitoring is essential to ensure balanced tourism development, promoting harmonious coexistence between residents and visitors and supporting the definition of more sustainable strategies aligned with community expectations.
Residents’ perception of the development of tourism in the Azores

Based on surveys conducted, the analysis allows us to understand the impact of tourism on the quality of life of local communities and the territory.
